We have provided a brief explanation below on what RSS is and how to use it, but if you already have an idea and like to skip that section, then the feeds are presented here:

What is RSS?

Ever wonder what all the cute orange buttons with annotations screaming RSS is about? In a nutshell, RSS (Rich Site Summary) is a format for delivering regularly updated web content. Many web publishers today syndicate their content as an RSS Feed so that millions of users around the world can keep track of their favorite websites.

Without RSS, readers have to bookmark and constantly visit a website just to see if it has been updated. Not an easy task if you read lots of websites daily and have limited time on hand.

How to Use RSS?

If you decide to read sites via RSS, the first step is to choose a suitable RSS Feed Reader. There are many of such feed readers around with a multitude of functions and features. For beginners, I will suggest you do as the Romans do by trying out a couple of free and easy to use web-based readers like Google Reader and Bloglines.

Either one will suffice in letting you grasp the basics and beauty of RSS. Both feed readers work almost like an email. As you subscribe to feeds, you’ll see the latest updates (unread entries will be marked as bold) and browse through the content in the feed reader. You can choose to visit the actual site or proceed to next unread item. Once you have covered all the posts, move on to feeds from other sites which you have tracked. It is quite normal for readers to cover a wide range of interests (probably hundreds of feeds) in one sitting.

The best way to learn how to use either Google Reader or Bloglines is to simply subscribe to some feeds and try it out. If you are really stuck, the help sections should be able to resolve most of your doubts. Other options for tracking websites are MyYahoo, MyMSN, Newsgator, Pageflakes, Netvibes, NewsBurst, etc.
