“Whenever we play in Europe, we have a lot of confidence. These are games in which the managers know each other and the players know each other. That makes it difficult to find an edge, but it also makes the game more exciting.”

very interesting comment by Rafa. Surely playing against Arsenal - another english side - will negate this advantage Liverpool seem to have in Europe?

Then again, both semi-finals against Chelsea were played in a European style, and Liverpool won both, despite the fact they can't beat Chelsea in the league.

Perhaps the 2-legged game automatically changes things, giving the Liverpool manager more time to work his undoubted tactical nous, and making a draw far more beneficial than it is in the league. fater all, most criticsm against Liverpool this season is that they haven't 'gone gung-ho' in their league games in a way that Man U, Arse and Chelsea do. In the Cl this isn't as important!
